Do you know the meaning of Reading?
"Reading" is a very common world around the world. It is usually to hear this word everywhere, mostly in Education, but in my opinion the meaning of this world is deeper than the use it usually has.
Reading is not simply taking a book and have a look at the amount of pages it contains ot looking for some kind of information. Reading is a pleasure, an adventage for many people.
Perhaps, the closely link between reading and lessons hides this meaning. Students can hate reading beacause they consider it a task they must do if they can get a good mark. As teachers, we have to help our students to discover a new world through reading.
It can be interesting that they can choose the kind of book, the theme, writers, and so on. They can discover many things different than curricular elements. They can learn a lot about history, society, geography ... They can promote their own critical view, develop a great amount of skills and competences through it.
Reading has been a treasure since the man started doing it. Only some people had access to education and learn reading. During centuries, the situation has been changed and nowadays almost all people can read. For that reason, I consider very important to promote that skill in our students, to show the true sense of freedom they can achieve through Reading.
